How your information is handled.

The short version

This is a small one-person operation. Oli Ayo (the photographer behind this book) runs the site himself. Your information is only used to fulfil your order, answer your enquiry, or keep the site running. Nothing is sold, traded, or used for advertising. Ever.

Who runs this site

This website is operated by Oli Ayo, a sole trader based in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia. If you want to get in touch about anything on this page, email hello@byronbaybook.com.au.

What information is collected

The site itself doesn't run analytics, doesn't set advertising cookies, and doesn't track you across the web. The only information that ends up associated with you comes from these three flows:

1. When you order the book

Orders are processed by Stripe. When you click "Add to Cart" you're taken to a Stripe-hosted checkout page. Stripe collects your name, email, shipping address, and payment details so the order can be charged and shipped. This site never sees your card number — Stripe does that work. Stripe sends a copy of the order details (excluding card data) back to the operator of this site so the book can be packed and posted to you.

2. When you submit the wholesale enquiry form

The wholesale form is delivered by Web3Forms, a form-relay service. The information you enter (business name, contact name, email, phone, location, store type, quantity, message) is forwarded by Web3Forms to the operator's email inbox so the enquiry can be answered. Web3Forms doesn't use the data for any other purpose.

3. When you simply browse the site

The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser user-agent, request timestamps) for a short window for security and abuse-prevention reasons. The operator of this site does not personally inspect those logs.

The site loads Google Fonts from Google's CDN. When your browser fetches a font, Google may log the request (IP, user-agent). The site preconnects with `crossorigin` so cookies aren't sent. The fonts themselves are static files — no tracking is performed.

What is NOT collected

No cookies are set by this site. No analytics scripts (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, etc.) are loaded. No advertising or retargeting tags. No newsletter is operated. No database stores customer data on this site directly — order data lives inside the Stripe dashboard.

How long information is kept

Stripe retains transaction records for as long as required by Australian and international financial regulation (typically seven years). Wholesale enquiries received by email are kept until the enquiry is resolved, then deleted. Server logs at Vercel are retained per their standard policy.

Who else sees your information

For an order to actually arrive at your door, the shipping address has to be passed to Australia Post (or, for international orders, the equivalent postal service). That's it. No third party receives any information for marketing or advertising purposes.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, you can ask for a copy of any personal information held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted (where there's no legal obligation to keep it). Email hello@byronbaybook.com.au with the request and it'll be actioned within a reasonable timeframe.

If you're not happy with how a privacy concern has been handled, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Children

This site isn't directed at children, and the operator does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If anything material changes — for example, if a new third-party service is added — this page will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top will change. There is no email list, so no notifications go out about updates. Worth a re-check if you're a returning visitor.
